PRESENTER ZONE :: SHAWNA ON THE RADIO

Shawna is no stranger to the entertainment business. She started her radio career at the age of 15 while still in high school. Her first experience in the entertainment business began at WTBQ Radio Station located in Warwick, New York. Shawna began her career as a co-host of a youth-oriented show titled, “Teen Talk” that focused on teen issues and promoted positive role models through personal interviews and discussions with guests. In 2006, Shawna later became the Senior Advisor of the show. As Senior Advisor, Shawna contacted, scheduled and produced local and national shows and appearances. As a result of the program’s success, in 2008, Shawna was asked to create and develop a new program.  On January 3, 2009, “Spotlight” debuted. Shawna created “Spotlight” to feature both upcoming and renowned artists and media professionals. Shawna managed and co-hosted the show with Natalie. Over the years, they interviewed a number of celebrities including: Sugar Ray, several American Idol participants including: Adam Lambert, Scott MacIntyre, Kimberley Locke, Ace Young, and David Hernandez. Some other notable guests included: Tyler James Williams from “Everybody Hates Chris,” Lucas Prata, Judy Torres, Reina, D.J. Skribble, Jared Cotter, model Ronnie Kroell, Saving Abel, Hinder, Gavin DeGraw, Nikki Blonsky, Counting Crows, Abigail Breslin, Mark Ballas, Jessie James, Brianna Brown, Celebrity party planner, Rena Puebla, Mike Lombardi, Former Knick and NBA free agent Quentin Richardson, Ray Johnston, Adam Barta, Tiffany Giradina, Push Play, Fizz and JBoog, and 2AM Club.  In addition to spending time on the radio, Shawna is passionate about inspiring young people. She speaks to children during school assemblies about growing up with a disability, following her dreams and being successful in the entertainment business.  Shawna’s dedication to the community also extends to various charitable organizations. She is very involved in the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley. The organization grants wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses. Shawna had her own wish granted in November of 2001 when she met Britney Spears. As a result, Shawna is now an active member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s alumni committee. Shawna is also involved in The Hailey’s Hope Foundation which provides assistance to families whose infants are in the N.I.C.U. of Westchester Medical Center. Hailey’s Hope is particularly special to Shawna who spent many months in the N.I.C.U. herself because she was born at 23 weeks gestation and weighed only 1 pound and 4 ½ ounces. Shawna was one of the first infants to survive after such an early a birth. Shawna has coped with physical disabilities and multiple surgeries since birth, but has never allowed them to define her or alter her plans for a career in the media. Highlights of her career include being profiled by NBC Sports anchor Bruce Beck who observed Shawna interview former New York Knicks player and NBA free agent Quentin Richardson. A few weeks later, MSG’s Al Trautwig and The New York Times also interviewed Shawna about her work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, her radio show and her interview with Quentin Richardson. They were particularly impressed with Shawna’s success, and they were excited about her promising future career as a radio host. In addition, Shawna was featured in the May/June 2010 issue of Orange Magazine in the “I am Orange County section” and most recently appeared in the Warwick Life magazine for her career in radio. Shawna’s newest adventure in the media broadcast world is the launching of her website “Shawna on the Radio” debuting as of March 14th, 2014. This new venture will expand her career by providing access across the world to her interviews, blogs, videos and much more.
